Area Law Enforcement
Roughly 50 vehicles have been covered with what appears to be human bodily fluid in the German city of Hanau in proximity to Frankfurt, according to law enforcement.
Automobiles, walls and mailboxes were marked, in some cases with prohibited symbols, they stated in a release.
Police report they were notified late on Wednesday, when a resident discovered that a vehicle in the Lamboy neighborhood of Hanau had been smeared with a red-colored fluid.
The substance had been placed in the pattern of a banned symbol, they stated.
Police then located multiple other smeared cars and building exteriors in the surrounding area.
Nazi symbols are prohibited in Germany under legislation banning the public exhibition of Nazi-era symbols.
Officials state initial examinations show the substance was most likely human bodily fluid.
"Currently there is no clue as to its source; investigators are currently not cognizant of any injuries in relation with the event," they added.
Local authorities announced they were trying "to resolve the incident" and have requested to the residents for information.
A high-ranking representative stated the attack made him speechless and had to be resolved quickly.
"This incident affects the very heart of Hanau and reopens the trauma of the right-wing violent incident in 2020," he stated on a platform, mentioning the murder of nine people by a assailant targeting individuals of migrant background in 2020.
