Democratic lawmakers Criticize Trump After He Suggests They Should Face Death Penalty

Lawmakers from the Democratic party expressed outrage after former President Donald Trump charged a group of Democratic representatives of being "turncoats" and asserted they should be arrested and penalized "by death" following their posting of a disputed video.

The Message That Sparked the Debate

The video footage, released on Tuesday, includes six Democratic lawmakers who previously served in military or security capacities.

"As we did, you all swore an vow to defend and defend this constitution," the officials stated in the short video. "And right now, the threats to our constitution are not only from abroad, but from within our own country. Our statutes are explicit, you can refuse unlawful commands, you can decline illegal orders, you must decline unlawful commands. No one has to carry out directives that violate the legal system or our constitution."

The Former President's Furious Reply

The clip appeared to trigger a furious response from the previous commander-in-chief.

On later in the week, Trump wrote on Truth Social: "This constitutes SEDITIOUS BEHAVIOR AT THE HIGHEST LEVEL. Each one of these betrayers to our Country should be ARRESTED AND PUT ON TRIAL."

In another publication, he stated: "This represents really bad, and Harmful to our United States. Their comments cannot be allowed to stand. SEDITIOUS BEHAVIOR FROM TRAITORS!!! LOCK THEM UP???"

In a additional publication, he continued: "SEDITIOUS BEHAVIOR, liable by DEATH!" He also shared a statement that said: "HANG THEM GEORGE WASHINGTON WOULD !!"

Democratic Representatives React

Following Trump's statements on Thursday, Top Democrats released a combined statement denouncing the comments.

"Partisan aggression has no role in America," they wrote. "Congress members who were featured in the video all served our country with great loyalty and honor. We clearly denounce Donald Trump's disgusting and dangerous death threats against members of Congress, and appeal to Republican lawmakers to vigorously do the same."

The Democratic leaders also said that they had been in contact with security officials "to guarantee the safety of these officials and their families."

"Donald Trump must immediately remove these extreme digital publications and withdraw his violent language before he causes harm," the statement continued.

Lawmakers' Strong Answer

The representatives who appeared in the video also issued a statement.

"We identify as veterans and national security professionals who love this nation and took an oath to defend and support the founding document of the United States," they declared. "Our pledge is permanent, and we aim to maintain it. No intimidation, intimidation, or call for violence will stop us from that sacred obligation."

"What's most telling is that the ex-president views it subject to penalty by execution for us to restate the statutes," they continued. "Our service members should understand that we have their protection as they fulfill their oath to the constitution and responsibility to adhere to only lawful orders. It is not only the proper thing to do, but also our obligation."

They continued: "Every American must unite and condemn the former president's calls for our death and ideological conflict. This is a moment for moral clarity."

Further Political Responses

The Senate Democratic leader also condemned Trump's statements and published on social media: "It's important to understand: the former president is calling for the capital punishment of government members."

He continued: "This represents an direct THREAT. Every Senator, all representatives, all citizens – irrespective of political affiliation – should denounce this right away and absolutely."

The Republican House speaker supported Trump's assertion that the Democrats had been involved in "rebellion", labeling the video as "extremely improper", adding: "This constitutes very risky, you have prominent officials of the government advising troops to defy commands, I think that's unprecedented in the nation's past."

The Conservative representative also according to sources stated to media outlets that in what he examined of Trump's messages, Trump was "describing the offense of treason" but that "legal experts have to analyze the terminology and determine all that."

Administration Statement

During a administration briefing on that day, when questioned by a media member, "Is the president want to execute elected officials?", the White House press secretary answered: "Absolutely not."

"It's important to note about what the president is reacting to," the official said. "You have current representatives of the federal government who conspired to organize a digital communication to individuals of the national defense, to serving soldiers advising them to ignore the executive's lawful orders."

She said: "The purity of our armed forces relies on the command structure, and if that system is compromised, it can cause casualties, it can result in chaos, and precisely what these congressional representatives ... are fundamentally supporting."
