No major competition sells parity like the NFL: it defines their identity. But through the first ten matchups during the current schedule, this doesn't represent a landscape featuring uniform distribution among elite teams, poor performers, and average squads. Within the National Football Conference, at least, there is some clarity. Over in the AFC, championship race is a jumbled mess. The four teams leading their divisions after ten games: Indianapolis, New England, Denver (all at 8-2) and the Steelers (5-4 record). Consider that carefully. No Chiefs presence. Buffalo is missing. Neither Ravens nor Bengals. The traditional powers, supported by the league’s best quarterbacks, display either glaring roster weaknesses or have suffered medical setbacks.

Colts Situation

Had it not been for fumbling away a contest they should have won versus the Steelers, they'd possess nine wins, one loss with the top standing. Last season, they appeared aged and sluggish. Today they appear youthful, quick and confident. However, we must acknowledge the weakness of New England's opponents. They have faced the easiest slate across the NFL, yet vulnerabilities remain. Drake Maye has been sacked thirty-five times – the second-most in football – with several hits he endured during the game were vicious. Over time, those hits add up.

Denver Broncos

The Broncos are 8–2 as well, and it still feels like they're nervously waiting. Their quarterback has been erratic, with the attack struggling, while the defensive unit provides most of the responsibility. Lacking competent QB performance, Denver cannot intimidate playoff opponents. The Chargers are also contending within their division at 7-2, but the injuries within their blocking corps will create difficulties to achieve championship contention.

Pittsburgh Steelers

And then there’s Pittsburgh, somehow still leading the AFC North notwithstanding receiving a 25-10 defeat from the Chargers during prime time. Their scoring margin remains negative, their defensive unit frequently falters, and Aaron Rodgers’ limitations given his veteran status continue to show up. At 5-4, they're barely clinging, however, the Ravens, featuring a recovered Jackson with manageable games ahead, are on a three-game win streak. This development isn't entirely shocking that the Ravens have narrowed to within one game of Pittsburgh, but how rapidly this occurred represents criticism toward the Steelers' uneven performances. That the Ravens started with a 1-5 record and currently seem they should win the division reveals much about the complete conference.

Traditional Powers

The Ravens represent a segment among three elite teams – alongside the Bills and Chiefs – fueled by former MVP signal-callers, that would continue to generate the most fear among competitors if they made the playoffs. They're the teams everyone hopes to avoid, however, both franchises continue to self-destruct.
