Manchester United Poised to Secure German Forward Lea Schüller from Bayern Munich

Manchester United are finalising sealing the deal for prolific Germany striker Lea Schüller in a permanent move away from Bayern Munich.

A Marquee Signing for the WSL Side

Schüller, who has half a year remaining on her contract, has been a prolific goal-getter for her club and the national team. She has scored more than 100 goals for Bayern and found the net 54 times in 82 appearances for her country. This signing is viewed as a marquee signing for the WSL side.

Departure from Bayern has been anticipated since she was seen fighting back tears while applauding the German club’s supporters following a win over Bayer Leverkusen this month.

Reports in late December that the German women's top flight was losing one of its leading strikers. According to multiple sources, all the paperwork for the move have now been completed.

Reliable Goal Threat to Strengthen United's Forward Line

The 28-year-old’s arrival should represent a major boost to the team's attacking options. Schüller has been remarkably consistent in front of goal in the Bundesliga.

  • For seven consecutive seasons, including the most recent campaign, she achieved at least a double-digit tally of league goals.
  • She claimed the Golden Boot in 2021-22 season with 16 goals.

Gathering Momentum at Carrington

The acquisition of Schüller’s signature comes at a time when the club seem to be gathering positive momentum.

Recent performances include securing a place in the European knockout phase playoffs in a seeded position and a win in the Conti Cup quarter-finals.

In the transfer market, the mid-season window has seen additional activity:

  1. The signing of Sweden defender Hanna Lundkvist on a multi-year deal.
  2. The contract extension for Japan playmaker Hinata Miyazawa, a popular figure since joining in 2023.

On the midfielder's new deal, a senior figure commented: “She has become a critical component to the way we play. Her understanding of the game and technical ability allows her and the team to dominate play from central areas.”

Lundkvist, who has arrived from a club in the NWSL, said: “You can sense how much the club have progressed in the last few years, playing in one of the strongest leagues in the world and performing in the Champions League.”
