PSG Edges Marseille on Penalties to Claim Trophee des Champions Season-Opening Trophy in the Middle East.

PSG players celebrating

The Parisian club has now won the season-opening trophy on 14 different times.

The Parisian giants needed a dramatic leveler followed by a successful spot-kick decider to get past Marseille in Kuwait and secure a fourth straight French Super Cup title.

The Champions League holders appeared to be coasting towards a comfortable triumph in the match featuring the French league winners and the Coupe de France holders after the French winger found the scoring early on.

Yet, Marseille fired twice late to seize a surprise lead. Initially, the English forward scored from the penalty spot, before Willian Pacho unfortunately turned the ball into his own net for an own-goal.

In a breathtaking twist of fortune, Goncalo Ramos snatched a crucial equaliser in the final seconds to send the match into a penalty shootout. The Parisian shot-stopper Chevalier then emerged as the hero, saving crucial kicks from O'Riley and Traore.

From the spot, Ramos, the midfielder, Nuno Mendes, and the young talent all scored successfully for PSG to complete a convincing penalty win.

Now 14-time winners Paris Saint-Germain, who faced last season's Ligue 1 runners-up Marseille after completing a domestic double, have now lifted this trophy for the twelfth time in the past 13 seasons.
