While perhaps not at the identical stature as sparing holiday birds, but the mayor of Miami-Dade conducted a Donald Trump moment this week by formally pardoning the life of a swine named Six Seven. Daniella Levine Cava carried out the annual tradition at the Cuban-themed Latin Cafe 2000 in the heart of Miami’s Little Havana neighborhood. “The swine has done no wrong. She deserves this act of mercy. Her criminal record is spotless,” stated the mayor in a speech with obvious nods to the sheer volume of pardons issued from the start of the onset of a new presidential term. “Unless you count eating six or seven apples per day,” she went on. “Let this swine have a lengthy and joyful existence free from concern.” The event, simultaneously observing and challenging the area's customary feast of eating roast pork during the holidays, was created to mirror the yearly bird sparing at the White House. The animal, provided by a local firefighter, was given its name from the current slang trend of young people shouting “6-7” – originating from a hip-hop line – often seemingly at random. The phrase became so pervasive that a leading lexicon site recently declared “six-seven” its 2025 word of the year. A Future Secured This particular pig is now destined to live out its days at a rural sanctuary “distant from barbecues and spits”, according to the ceremony's official statement. “This swine clemency has become one of our favorite ways to kick off the festive period,” said Eric Castellanos, in a decidedly positive message. “It captures the spirit of Miami: joyful, varied, and based in heritage that bring people together. Every time, we are honored to observe culture and compassion in a way distinctively Miamian.” Participants enjoyed a vegetarian menu of spinach croquetas and Cuban coffee as they celebrated the swine's new lease on life.
